Race report 11th April 2026
Another busy week for Burnden with our runners taking on Rivington Pike Fell Race on Saturday 4th April and then a Burnden Quartet taking on Darwen Half Marathon on Sunday 5th April. Pike Fell Race A lot of perseverance was required to tackle the Pike, with Storm Dave biting at their feet. Not a problem for 32 of our Burnden runners, with times ranging from 24:38 to 49:01 to get to that blustery finish line. 83. Michael Kermode: 24:38 90. Paul Duke: 24:58 119. Paula P

Run Report – 2nd April 2026
When we are getting at least 4 seasons in a day this Spring to Summer week, our Burnden runners have gone further afield to Berlin and Prague, no less. Speedy Michael ‘Fast Mode’ Kermode has been knocking seconds and minutes from his PBs for a while and this week he hit the big one. FESTIVAL TIME FOR MARLANDS
With a mix of closed roads, live entertainment and fancy bling, the Wigan Running Festival is a popular choice and raises thousands of pounds for the Joining Jack charity. A soggy day saw the Marland family attend the Festival at Mesnes Park along with over 1,000 runners. Ally and Simon took on the Half Marathon distance while Sue opted for the 5K. Ally finished just ahead of dad, Simon, in 1:42:07, Simon crossed in 1:43:05 and Sue completed the 5K in 32:32. JUSTIN’S ROBIN HO

BURNDEN’S SANGSTER WINS INAUGRAL BOLTON HALF
Burnden Road Runners were out in force to support the first XMiles Bolton Half Marathon and 10K, organised by Epic Events, and it was a day to be proud. The course was challenging to say the least – with hills (yes, THAT one in Queen’s Park!), twists, turns and dog legs but the support, particularly in the park, was astounding. Our England Athletics Volunteer of the Year, Cheryl Dunleavy, deserves a mention for being out dressed as a Burnden bee and supporting around the cloc

LOSTOCK AND TONS OF SMOKING TIMES
Lostock AC’s ‘6 Miles of Smiles’ race is a staple event on the Lancashire race calendar and forms part of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix. A special addition today was the inclusion of three generations of the Marland family all in one race! Sue, Simon, Clair, Alistair and Ciaran all took park and took a family selfie to mark the occasion. In its 43rd year, the sun shone and

HORSMAN PULLS IN THE NEW YEAR
The final day of 2025 saw Burnden revellers celebrating the New Year early with Trail Blazing Events and the Trails and Ales 10K, which finishes with a pie, a pint and a party. Before the clock struck midnight on a freezing Bolton, the sounds of a bag piper could be heard as runners set off to tackle the Horwich trails. It’s a tough course with ups, downs, more ups, boulders, rivers, mud, bogs, gates, monuments and more but with the pleasing strains of Auld Lang Syne to pipe
