Burnden Race Report - 13 July

A quiet week of racing over the last few weeks, which has gradually picked up pace again.

On July 5th, Paula Pilling completed the Deva Divas triathlon today, it was Paula’s first open water swim. Paula described this as a great event for any ladies who want to give an open water triathlon a go. Super friendly, ladies only, quiet roads and a flat run.

On July 11th, Jake and Megan ventured over Lancashire way for their running. With Jake in the East and Megan on the borders of Fylde. They had brilliant results to celebrate. Jake Quinn finished 20th at the Stonyhurst Tolkien Trail Race (11.1km) in 54:52, Megan Mcloughlin smashed her first-ever 10K at the Blackpool Summer 10K with a chip time of 1:13:17.

Again, on 11th July, our fabulous Luisa Shield completed the Lakeland Trails 55k Ultra, a fantastic achievement. Luisa explained that it was a hot day, the race had lots of elevation. However, there were gorgeous views, and she was proud to have got around the course.

Our Burnden secretary Jennifer, had a trip over to Ilkley to complete a Half marathon on Sunday 12th July. Jennifer did not provide a time, simply stating “It was so hard in the heat, so my time was rubbish, but it was gorgeous and so well supported. I recommend it to anyone”.

As we will probably be aware as runners, running and racing is not always about times and more about crossing the line. Jennifer and Luisa have shown true Burnden spirit of perseverance.

Michael Kermode completed on Saturday 11th July 2026, the Shrewsbury 5K Festival, he finished in the time of 18:45.

On July 12th, Six Burndeners took on the challenge of racing the train. Results are: -

Suleman Badat 1:16:11, Gayle Gerrard 1:35:22, Rachel Norman 1:45:08, Andrew Norman 1:45:08, Paul Cox 2:00:00, Justin Bones 2:00:30. A brilliant event for them all to steam ahead to the finish line.
