GIN PIT STEAMS AGAIN
Burnden were back in the Gin Pit for a muddy 5 miles as the CLGP offering rolled up on the calendar. Named for the area of the Gin Pit Colliery, the race is hosted by Astley & Tyldesley Road Runners and is always a fun event though hazardously narrow in places. Top three gentlemen were led by speedy Tom Stratton in 33:34 with Suleman Badat seconds behind in 34:18 and Steve Nolan nailing 1st MV65 in 3rd with 34:41. Paul Christie took 1st MV70 in 44:04. SUPERSTAR CHERYL WINS EA AWARD!
Following on from Burnden’s Club of the Year Award in 2023 from England Athletics, we had another reason to be proud as our Cheryl picked up some more bling. Cheryl was nominated as Volunteer of the Year in the EA Awards this year and (to nobody’s surprise!), she won! We all know that Cheryl is a legend – loyal, everlastingly cheerful and as energetic as a Duracell bunny! RED ROSE RUNNERS
Cross Country Captain, Paul Duke, led his team this weekend as the first race of the Red Rose League kicked off at Leigh – starting an autumn filled with mud, grass and smiles for Burnden members. Ladies ran a single lap 5K - bringing two 1st along with a 2nd and 3rd Vet category win. Gwen Kinloch was 1st home and 1st V65 in 23:22. Lyndsay Darbyshire followed in 24:39 – securing a 1st place V55. Anne Ferguson brought home the 2nd place V65 in 25:29 and Elaine Roper claimed 3
