Burnden were busy bees across the borough and beyond this week
On July 26th, it was the Northern Masters Track Championship at Longford Park Stretford. In the first event, the 5000 metres, Steve Nolan won silver in a time of 19:44 (the 3rd fastest time in the UK over this distance this year in Steve's MV65 category). In the same race, Francis Mackin won gold being first home in his MV75 category in a time of 25:45. Francis is already the fastest MV75 in the country, due to his time of 52:18 which he ran in April.
The 400-metre race followed, and Paul Christie (MV70) won a gold in this event in a time of 1 minute 17 seconds. Paul also collected a silver medal later in the day in the 800 metres, running a time of 3:06.

Report from Mike Caine (Tri Captain) provided an update for Sunday 2nd August for the Salford Triathlon. The details are below -
The 2026 Salford Triathlon was a fast, spectator-friendly event held at the iconic MediaCityUK and Salford Quays, offering both Sprint (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run) and Standard/Olympic (1,500 m swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) distances, as well as Aqua bike and relay options. Athletes began with an open-water swim in the sheltered waters of Dock 9 before tackling a flat, draft-legal bike course on quiet public roads through Salford and Trafford, finishing with a scenic run around Salford Quays. Renowned for its welcoming atmosphere, excellent organisation and suitability for both first-time triathletes and experienced racers chasing personal bests, the event combined a challenging race in one of Greater Manchester’s most recognisable waterfront locations.
