Our fabulous Gwen Kinloch was World Class once again at The World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
On Saturday, it was the 10K race and Gwen of Burnden and Great Britain, came 3rd in her age category, winning a bronze medal for herself and her country with the time of 47.34. Andy Warburton also ran in Daegu and finished his M65 10K race in a time of 58:24. It is reported that it was 26 degrees and 96% humidity at 7am when they started the race. Unbelievable skill and tenacity shown by our Burnden extraordinaires.
Mike Caine provided information on the Triathlon race this weekend.
Epic Events – West Lancs Summer Triathlon 2026 is a friendly, beginner-focused multisport event held annually at Edge Hill University, Ormskirk, offering four race options to suit different abilities and preferences. The main Triathlon consists of a 400m pool swim, 21.5km flat three-lap bike and 5km trail run, while the Duathlon removes the swim and features a 5km run, 21.5km bike and 2.5km run; the Aquathlon combines the 400m pool swim with a 5km run, and the new-for-2026 Aquabike consists of a 400m swim followed by the 21km bike. The event is designed to accommodate everyone from first-timers to experienced and competitive athletes, with the run finishing on the Edge Hill running track in front of supporters.
This years event was a special one, given we had 4 members taking part in their 1st Triathlon (Ian Mann, Chelsea Entwistle, Shirley Robinson and Hamad Ali), and 1 member taking on her 1st Aquathon (Jen Forkin).
We also had a number of course PBs that I know about (Martin Fielding / Gareth Doherty/ Martin Cullen / Francesca Caine / Sarah Woodiwiss / Mike Caine / Josh Palmer).

On Sunday 23rd August, a number of Burnden runners headed over to Leigh and took part in Pennington Flash 5 miler.
