Race Report - 22nd September
To start the report, we bring attention to the fabulous triathletes within our club, as they had their final hurrah of 2026, weekend 19th/20th September. Mike Caine reports - This weekend was the last Tri Championship Race of 2026, where 9 Burnden Members took part in the Wilmslow Sprint Triathlon. The event is slightly longer than most sprint events. It started with a standard 16 lengths of Wilmslow Leisure Centre pool, and then the athletes transitioned to the bike leg for a 24km Loop of the East Cheshire countryside. Once completed, the event finished with a double looped 6k run which involved 4 bridge climbs.
The results included 4 Age category wins, which out of a field of 215 was impressive across the board:-
Martin Fielding - (7:23min/41:12min/29:56min) = 1:22:30. 13th Male Overall, 3rd in his Age Category, Mike Caine - (8:11min/43:39min/30:20min) = 1:25:52. 14th Male Overall. Age Category Winner, Ste Horsman - (9:35min/42:26min/30:16min) = 1:26:54. 21st Male Overall. Age Category Winner, Sarah Woodiwiss - (8:51min/47: 34min/34.01min) = 1:37:36. 7th Female Overall. Age Category Winner,
Josh Palmer - (9:14min/46:23min/38:05min) = 1:39:02. 56th Male Overall. 9th in his Age Category, Keith Thomas - (8:19min/55:45min/34:18min) = 1:42:51. 72nd Male Overall. Age Category Winner, Kathryn Berry - (11:03min/57:42min/41min) = 1:57:22. 37th Female Overall. 2nd in her Age Category, Bec Peachy - (10:34min/59:51min/42:34min) = 1:59:17. 43rd Female Overall. 4th in her Age Category (and her 1st Triathlon) and Hamad Ali - (13min/1:03:22min/38:25min) = 2:00:08. 125th Male Overall. 16th in his Age Category.

On 12th September, several Burndeners made their way over to Great Westmorland race, the results are shown below: -
Michael Kermode 00:59:44, Paul Duke 01:01:48, Lyndsay Darbyshire 01:13:54, Gareth Lowe 01:15:50, Elaine Roper 01:17:40, Jane Forrest 01:20:31, Shirley Staveley 01:20:38, Jenni Partington 01:24:36, Kathryn Berry 01:25:13, Jocelyn Chadderton 01:44:09.
Ravi Patel, also on the 12th of September, completed one lap of Lake Windermere; this is 75km. Ravi completed this is in 12:57:40. An amazing achievement in which he celebrated the best way he could and wanted.
On 13th September, a tremendous trio of runners took on Great North Run and did incredibly well. Erin Marsh finished in 1:59:36 and Andy and Rachel Norman finished in 2:03:02. This was a course PB for Rachel.
A fantastic week of running continued in Cheshire for their half marathon, where Burnden runner Adam Booth completed Cheshire Half Marathon in 1:29:57.
Race results are not yet known, however a few Burndeners also completed a 10k on 13th September at Yarrow Valley in Chorley, this race being known as Yarrow Valley Splash 10k. Many feet were found to be soggy at the end of this race.

A week later and the half marathons and 10k’s continued, this started with Susan Sumner at Torbay 10k finishing in 01:07:00, a scenic race along the English riviera.

Nathan P completed the Morecambe Half in 01:42:00, Steven Bate completed Copenhagen WRRC 1/2 marathon in 1:59:15 and a good number of Burndeners stayed more local in Bury. The results of this are shown below.

Whilst not running, Burnden Road Runners, Vivienne Bentley and Suzi Walmsley took part in half marathon charity trek on Saturday 19th September. Vivienne completed this in full, whereas Suzi did just over 10 miles. Both combined raising just over £500 for CoppaFeel charity.
