Burnden Race Report May 31st

A week of heat and not only the weather

2 Burndeners completed a race in Cornwall on Wednesday 27th May. Rachel and Andy Norman did The Gribbin 10km. This was reported as a tough, hilly, but stunning coastal trail race. Temperature gauge - super hot. Rachel and Andy finished together in 1:05:09.


On May 28th, the marsh family did the media city 5k and their results were -

Erin Marsh: 25:17, John Marsh: 28:09 and Chris Marsh: 34:05.


Also on 28th May, Mark Butler and Steven Bate ran at the Harrock Hill Race. A 5.2-mile course, mostly off-road. Results -


Mark Butler 57:13, Steven Bate 1:06:25.


On Friday 29th May, Simon Marland took part in one of his bucket list races, the DNF (Do Not Fail) FCF Backyard Ultra race. The requirements are to do a yard of 4.167 miles on the hour, to complete within the hour, then again on the next hour for as many yards as you feel able. The course was made up of two laps for the yard on trail and grass surfaces, with a couple of hills thrown in. The weather conditions were hot. Simon managed to complete six yards before the heat and a niggle in his right knee brought him to the decision to ring the bell to signal his finish. Simon completed 25.002 miles altogether. Sue (his wife) had the much-needed support role of fuel delivery girl, a job she did fabulously. Well Done, Simon.


On May 31st, a selection of Burnden runners ran the AJ Bell Great North Run.


Natasha Clarke completed her half marathon in 2:25:02, Erin Marsh finished in 01:56:46, Rich Burnett finished in 1.57.52 and Ravi Patel smashed his pb & got sub-90cial time of 01:29:37. Jordan Hulme completed the 10k race and finished in 1:10:21.

Emma Beardwell completed the 10k in 52:40 and Gregg Beardwell completed the half in 1:55:06.


Paul Cox completed a half marathon at Wirral on 31st May also and finished in 1:56:37.


Burnden Duo Andrew and Kath Berry completed a cycle sportive also on 31st May - York Lincoln York. Andrew did 168 miles in 8 hours 48 mins, and Kath Berry did 105 miles in 6 hours 46 mins.


Parkrun mentions

Julie and David Morrison completed the Milton Country parkrun in Cambridge on Saturday morning. A course described as a lovely trail course that twists and loops around the park. Times were 30:35 for David and 49:03 for Julie.


Jake Quinn and Megan Mcloughlin did Penrhyn park run in Wales in 23:02 and 37:44, respectively.


An honourable mention to Katherine Baines for her 500th parkrun at Bolton this morning! An amazing feat that she should be incredibly proud of.


Bolton Parkrun had their 700th anniversary and Burnden showed up to celebrate.
