A week after the excitement of the Marathons, it was time again to focus on the Club Championship races. Burnden Captains, Linda and Gareth, had chosen a local treat for the membership in the form of the Chorley 10K. With admittedly a few tricks (hills) included, the Chorley 10K is a community effort with a family fun run 2K taking part the same day – creating a buzzing atmosphere. The two-lap course starts and finishes on Market Street, taking in St Thomas’ and Southport Roads before entering beautiful Astley Park.
First home for Burnden was Alexander Shield in 39:02 with Suleman Badat seconds later in 39:15 and Lee White third in 40:25 - claiming 1st MV50.
Ed Ashton was 1st MV60 in 44:41 and Gwen Kinloch took 1st Burnden Lady and 1st FV65 in 45:42. Lyndsay Darbyshire was 2nd Burnden Lady and 1st FV55 in 47:51. Vicki Hamer was 3rd Burnden Lady in 48:14. Shirley Staveley was 1st FV60 in 51:04.
Simon Marland claimed 3rd MV65 in 48:18 and Francis Mackin was 2nd MV70 in 52:31.

SCARECROW FELL FOR KEITH
Keith Thomas has no fear when it comes to fell challenges and cross country and this week he took on the Wray Caton Moor Fell Race.
Part of the Wray Scarecrow Festival and Fair activities, the 6.8 mile Fell race boasts 1,100 feet of elevation and takes runners from the village up to Caton Moor and back down again.
Keith finished in 1:04:56 and described the race as tough but great fun!
PIECE OF CAKE FOR JORDAN
Jordan Hulme went back to his roots this week to take on the Piece of Cake 10K at Boggart Hole Clough. The race is three laps of the park including Angel Hill, which Jordan likened to Bolton’s Cruella. Finishing in 1:03:21, Jordan unfortunately didn’t manage any cake from the stall this time!
PARKRUN MENTION
Special mention to Catherine Shield who completed her 250th parkrun at Heaton Park last week – well done! Catherine crossed the line in 29:25.
