SAY CHEESE TO ‘GRATE’ RESULTS AT MYERSCOUGH!

When it’s a cheese prize at the end of a race, you know it’s time for a platter of puns and it was a ripe selection of members who parme-ran along the beautiful routes of Lancashire’s Myerscough 10 Miler!

As the Club Championship serves its final few slices, the Myerscough makes a repeat appearance in the race list – a sneaky long run for the end of the year where racers are counting down the miles from 10 to cheese.

Looking gouda at the front was Suleman Badat who received his cheese wheel in a brie-lliant 1:02:34 – also collecting 2nd MV45.

Making like marscapones and cantering to the finish line, second and third Burnden males were Michael Kermode in 1:04:01 and Lee White in 1:06:20.

The ladies were feta than the rest – bringing home 3 Vet Category wins in the top 3. Leading was 1st FV65 Gwen Kinloch in 1:16:10 followed by Vicki Hamer 3rd FV35 in 1:22:08 and 3rd FV60 Marie Parkinson in 1:24:42.

LANZA-RUNNING

Leaving behind the relentless rain for some Spanish sunshine this year were 14 Burndeners off to Lanzarote for the annual running festival. Organised by Club La Santa, the festival has took place for over 30 years and attract runners from all over Europe.

Burnden represented in four different distances – from the Santa Dash 5K to the 10K, Half and Full Marathon.

Completing the 26.2 were Mark Cannon – who finished in 3:26:47 – and Jenni Partington who crossed in 4:35:03.

13.1 saw Gareth Doherty finish first in 1:33:41 followed by Jake Quinn – 1:39:27, first lady Mumtaz Patel – 1:40:38, Linda Doherty – 1:56:17, Elaine Roper - 2:04:00, Kimberley Lowe – 2:10:22, Ravi Patel – 2:10:22 and Tony Fulop – 3:10:12.

10Kers were led home by Patrick Filio in 49:55. Next home were Gareth Lowe – 51:18, Neil Counsell – 55:09 and Ian Mann – 1:30:45.

Special mention from Paddy for his wife, Jayne Filio who completed her first ever 5K at the Festival– finishing in 41:00.


TATTON FOR TWO

Beautiful Tatton Park was host to a Christmassy scene this weekend as the Yule Yomp 10K kicked off the festive season for many runners. Featuring snowmen, elves, Santas and crackers, the race is a 1-lap adventure around the scenic park with undulating terrain. Julie and David Morrison, resplendent in full Christmas attire finished the course in a Santa-stic 1:15:00.
