MACKIN GOLD LOOK EASY!
Report on the Northern Master’s Track & Field Championship by Paul Christie.
“The 2025 Northern Master's Track & Field Championship was held on Sunday at Longford Park, Trafford.
After a gap of over 20 years Burnden supervet Francis Mackin decided that he needed to run on the track again.
First track event up was the 3,000 metres. Francis won gold in his MV75 catagory in a fabulous time of 13 mins 51.09 secs.
In the same race Steve Nolan claimed a silver metal in the MV65 category, clocking 12 mins 01.71 secs.
The next event was the 800 metres. In his race Paul Christie (MV70) took the gold medal in a season's best time of 2 mins 48.65 secs.
Francis wasn't finished yet! He ran in the 1500 metres and once again claimed gold in a super time of 5 mins 53.06 secs.
Just to put those gold winning times into context. In his 800 metre race Paul ran the 8th fastest time in the UK this year for a Male Vet 65 runner.
Not to be outdone, and making it his day totally, Francis ran the 8th fastest time this year for his 1500 metre gold and the 5th fastest time in the 3,000 race.
Golden oldies indeed!!”
