NORMAN INVASION OF THE LAKE DISTRICT TRAILS

Andy and Rachel Norman are a Burnden couple who aren’t afraid to battle a variety of races and this time it was a 10 miler in the stunning Lakes.

The Derwentwater 10 road race, organised by Keswick AC, is in its 65th year and is an undulating loop around the water run on entirely tarmac roads.

The Normans conquered this challenge in superb times of 1:37:57 andy nd 1:37:58 for Rachel and Andy respectively.

PAIR RETURN FOR GRIM CHAPTER

‘It’s Grim Up North Running’ offer a fairy tale selection of races and events and one was just right for Sue and Simon Marland as they headed to the Yorkshire Dales.

The Swinsty and Fewston Trail race takes competitors around the two reservoirs of the title. It is a beautiful and undulating run finishing with a steep hill near the finish and runners can choose to complete 6.7 miles with one lap or 13.4 with two. Sue closed the chapter on her one lap in 1:20:07 and Simon turned the page again – finishing his 13.4 in a super 1:50:42.

BURNDEN PAIR REMEMBERS AT POPPY RUN

Armistice Day is marked in the race calendar each year with a variety of runs and beautiful Lytham beckoned two members to the Windmill 10K for Remembrance Day. One of a series of races centred around the eye-catching Windmill, this is a very flat course that is deceptively tough in the November wind. The race started with a two-minute’s silence and then a super 5K run out to Avenham Lake followed by a biting return.

First home was Luke Newell in 1:03:31 followed by Tony Fulop in 1:10:03.

JOC IS ‘DUN’ WITH HER ‘LICKLE’ FELL

The Dunnerdale Fell might take runners through the Lickle valley but there’s nothing ‘lickle’ about the elevation as Jocelyn Chadderton found out this week.

The 5 mile race is a short trek round the tiny but rugged fells between the Lickle and the Duddon valleys. With superb scenery, it is a feast for the eyes but a trial for the legs as the tough course reaches heights of 1,800 feet.

Joc was ‘bushed’ by the end but was proud to ‘bring up the rear’ as 2nd lady from the chatty back in 1:25:00.

PODIUM 5K SPEED RACE

Presented by SportsShoes.com, the Podium 5K is advertised as the fastest 5K race. Featuring the fastest 500 on its website, the race is open to all athletes but is a fast, PB setting opportunity in different locations. Two of our speediest headed to Leicester to compete and brought back fantastic times for the 3.1 mile distance. Mark Whittington was home in 17:33 and Michael Kermode crossed the line in 18:46.
