MILES OF sMILES

ree

Burnden’s sMile Run was back this year part of the Club Championship schedule. Bringing as many Burndeners as possible to this free 1 mile race has become a tradition that started with Cheryl Dunleavy’s Virtual Championship League several years ago. Captain Cheryl made sure that the boinging Burnden bee, which made its first buzzing appearance at Manchester Marathon could be found along the route!

Held in Rivington on a Monday training night, this Burnden Smile session comprises one warm up mile all together and then two waves of timed miles.

Here are the results and remember the smiles when you next run the miles!

Fastest smiler was Ryan Moore in 5:42 with Martin Fielding next in 5:47 and Gary Avison third in 5:59.

STRATOSPHERIC MILE FOR TOM

Speedy Tom Stratton was also out for a mile this week and achieved a super sub-6. Joining some top runners, including some sub-4s and a world record, Tom did the Bury AC Track Mile in a stratospheric 5:26:86.

JOC AND KATH TEE OFF

Two Burnden ladies were out on the course for the Golf Ball Fell Race in Rawtenstall this week – having a tee-riffic time!

The Fell Race is a series of 4 and is so named after a distinctive golf-ball shaped radio transmitter on the final descent. Including around 6 miles of distance and 1000 feet of elevation, it’s a tricky putt for the legs but Kath Baron and Jocelyn Chadderton both completed in a respectable 1:15:00. This was Joc’s third race of the series and Kath completed all 4.

BACK IN A FLASH FOR BURNDEN

Shining times were everywhere as Burndeners took up the 5 mile trail challenge at Pennington Flash – Leigh Harriers' entry for the CLGP.

The route is a pleasant one – from the sports track to the woods and around the Flash on an undulating course.

Mark Cannon was 1st home for the Club and took 1st MV60 in 34:43. Gary Avison was next home in 34:56 and Jake Quinn finished the top 3 in 36:27.

Ladies were led by Gwen Kinloch as she crossed in 37:48 and was crowned 1st FV60. Second lady was Gayle Gerrard in 40:25 and Vicki Hamer took third in 40:42.
