DUATHLON SUCCESS

Written by Triathlon Captain Mike Caine.

Now an event run jointly between Tony Hesketh and Burnden Road Runners, the Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon was full sold out for 2025 and the inclement weather forecast didn't put off the 56 competitors / relay teams of which 11 were from the Burnden Team.

The duathlon has been staged for over many years in various formats.

The event is now run annually in memory of Ian Hesketh who tragically died at the tender age of 27 in 2005. Ian was a member of Horwich RMI Harriers since he was 8 years old and Rivington was his favourite training area. He was a lifeguard at a leisure centre in Bolton and cycled to and from work every day.

First over the line was Andrew Horrocks in a breathtaking 1:29:17 and was 3rd overall and 1st in his age category. He was closely followed by Martin Fielding after a battle on the bike leg. Martin came in over the line in 1:31:16 and a 4th overall placing / 2nd in his age category. The 3rd individual was Paul Duke in 1:41:53 and a 3rd age category place. First lady was Melonie Goodall with a time of 1:45:07 and an 2nd age category placing. Second lady Marie Parkinson came 1st in her age category with a time of 1:57:35. The leading relay team for Burnden Road Runners was Todd Cameron and Ryan Moore 1:40:04.
