Burnden were back on the trails at the Worsley Woods 5 Mile for another bash at the CLGP and the Club Championship. The race, organised by Swinton Running Club, is a beautiful woodland trail route, which uses part of the parkrun course but ventures deeper into the woods. The first part of the course is a flat and pleasant run along a former railway line before the route loops around and develops into a twisty-turny adventure with some decidedly hazardous tree routes.
First out of the woods was Suleman Badat in 31:38 followed by Tom Stratton in 32:21 and Andrew Horrocks in 32:26.
Ladies were led home by Jessica Lee in 35:39 followed by 1st FV65 Gwen Kinloch in 37:43 and Francesca Caine seconds later in 37:58.

BUZZING FROM TOWER TO CASTLE
Two of the original Burnden Bees Beginners from 2021 made their former Run Leaders very proud this week as they took on an incredible distance.
Having already smashed Manchester Marathon exactly 6 months before, Chelsea Entwistle and Sarah Brown took on the ultimate challenge of an Ultra Marathon, which is defined as anything longer than 26.2 miles. Joined by fellow Burndener, Justin Bones, Chelsea and Sarah chose the Tower to Castle 30.9 – organised by Fylde Coast Runners. This route runs all the way from Blackpool Tower to Lancaster Castle with a scheduled ferry stop in the middle. The trio’s months of training paid off as they all finished the race with huge smiles and a buzz in the air despite the ferry changing into a taxi! Supported by Burnden friends, Ian Mann, Andy Dunleavy and Cheryl Dunleavy as well as Sarah’s dog, Alfie, Justin finished the race in 6:50:23 followed by Chelsea in 7:58:06 and Sarah in 8:03:08.
TRIO GO KNUTS
Over 2000 runners gathered for the Knutsford 10K events this weekend and three Burndeners were there to fly the flag. Starting within the stunning grounds of the Barclays Radbroke Campus, this flat and fast course has plenty of PB potential.
Finishing first was Michael Kermode in 38:12 followed by Mumtaz Patel who smashed 29 seconds from her PB – crossing in 43:22. Reuniting the trio was Hamad Ali who finished in 1:09:24.
