TRIPLE THREAT HAMER IS A CURLEY’S CHAMP

Updated: 4 days ago

The Curley’s 5K again featured on the Burnden race list – this time as part of the Off-Road Championship and our members did us proud once again.

Notorious (and avoided) for its horrific hill and relentless undulations, the race welcomed a healthy amount of Burnden members who fancied a mid-week quads torture.

The route starts from Curley’s Fisheries and, after a deceiving downhill slope and some pretty waterside, suddenly elevates into a challenging climb before careening downwards through woodland in an ankle-breaking test.

Vicki Hamer was a trio of tremendous as she took 3rd overall lady, 1st FV35 and 1st Burnden lady in 25:47. More ladies were Vet queens as Anne Ferguson took 1st FV65 in 26:33 and Lyndsay Darbyshire claimed 1st FV55 in 26:44. Jane Forrest took 2nd FV55 in 28:17.

Vet Category winners were in abundance among the gentlemen and first home was Mark Whittington in 21:19 claiming 1st MV50. Paul Duke followed in 21:41 and was crowned 1st MV40.

Steve Nolan took 1st MV60 in 22:35 and Steve Horsman took 2nd MV60 in 23:42. Andy Staveley completed the trio by claiming 3rd MV60 in 24:50.

BATE’S IN CZECH

Steven Bate was chasing the Czech sun this week as he took on one of the most prestigious half marathons in the world.

The Generali Prague Half Marathon attracts the fastest runners with its World Athletics Elite Label and is part of the the renowned SuperHalfs series of European half marathons. One look at the race’s PBs for male and female (58:24 and 1:04:52) is proof of its speediest soles among the 16,000 who cross the line.

A unique atmosphere and a route showcasing the heart of historic Prague awaited Burnden’s Steven and he finished in an impressive 2:10:56 – collecting more kudos for this time considering he ran with a torn meniscus!
