The Burnden Cross Country team were out two weekends in a row and represented over in Runcorn for the Sunday League and at Heaton Park in the South East Lancs League.
Six runners made the trip over to Runcorn’s Town Park, an undulating and muddy home to the infamous Ski Slope Hill, which makes for a fantastic course alongside a well-supported and organised race.
Running for Burnden were Captain Paul Duke, Michael Kermode, Gareth Lowe, Jenni Partington, David Smith and Chair Tony Fulop.
At Heaton Park the following week, Verity Harrison was first home for the Ladies’ Team in 36:22. Next in was Gwen Kinloch – 1st V65 in 38:27 and third was Anne Ferguson – 2nd V65 in 41:12. For the Mens’ Team, it was Michael Kermode leading in 40:22 followed by Stephen Horsman – 45:23, David Smith – 51:03, Andy Warburton – 55:56,
EAST LANCS VETS RUN AWAY WITH AWARDS
It was time for the first Club Championship this week and as members clocked in 6.1 miles, our Vets did amazingly well.
The East Lancashire Hospice 10K and 2K races have raised over £100,000 for the Hospice patients’ care and are organised by one of their supporters - The Vella Group, Great Harwood.
Amid freezing rain and scenic mud, eagle eyes could spot fitness influencer Alistair Almond and his mum running the race alongside hundreds of others.
For Burnden, first in was Suleman Badat with 38:56 and the 1st V45 crown. Next was Mark Whittington in 39:09 and taking the 1st V50. Third to finish was Men’s Captain Gareth Doherty – 3rd V45 in 40:40.
First Burnden lady Paula Pilling was also 1st V50 in 44:07. Next in was Jessica Lee in 44:28 and Gwen Kinloch took 1st V65 in 47:39.
