Captains Briefing

Hi Burndeners It's almost here! The first race of our brand new 2024 Club Championship, and the inaugural Parkrun age grading challenge.

This Saturday we're heading to Alexandra Parkrun. As always it's a 9am start and it's roughly 30 minutes from Bolton Town centre. Parking is limited to the streets around the park, so please car share where possible. Please reach out to each other, especially those we know that don't drive to offer lifts.

It's a flat and fast course, so perfect for a 5k PB and for laying down that first age grading. We will be returning to Alexandra in December to see if we can improve it. The biggest improvement will will win a prize at our 2025 awards night. Here's the link for all the information. https://www.parkrun.org.uk/alexandra/

Let's gather for the pre-race photo at 8.45 near to the start, just before the first timers brief. Don't forget your barcode, and if you're new to Burnden, make sure your Parkrun profile is updated to say affiliated to Burnden Road Runners. That way Ian can find you easily in the results to add those all important first points to the club championship table. While I have your attention and we're talking about Parkrun.

Yes I do bang on about it a lot once you get me started. Saturday the 10th will see us taking over at Bolton Parkrun to promote our awesome club and our iconic Trotters Trail race. We would like to see as many of you possible volunteering in anyway you can. Burnden hold the record for the most volunteers attending from way back in 2019, and I would love to smash that target. Also with the Bolton CLGP 5k the following day, there's no better excuse to rest those legs and don the parkrun hi- viz. We would also like to get a full complement of pacers, so if you really do want to run, then you can and get a volunteer credit in too. Pacer bibs start at 24 and go up in increments of 2 minutes up to 40, plus a 45. We also have park walker bibs if you want to stretch you legs that way. Email in to bolton@parkrun.com to volunteer and let's get that roster full to bursting.

One final thing. February also sees two Central Lancs Grand Prix races. Linda provided the links to these in her last email but if you missed them here they are again. Bolton 5k. http://www.boltonunitedharriers.co.uk/our-races-events/bolton-5k/ The CLGP awards will also take place straight after the race. We won all 4 leagues and there's many of you with individual cat trophies and medals for completing at least 10 races too. Don't miss out on celebrating our club and your club mates.

Lostock 6 https://www.madbullevents.com/events-1/lostock-6-road-race-2024 If you've been waiting for January the 61st to arrive and get paid, now's the time to book. That's it for now. See you on Saturday. Best regards Gareth Mens Captain
