Here is this week’s report on Burnden Tri’s activities – reported by Captain Mike Caine.
“The Serpentine Swim in Hyde Park took place this Sunday and saw Gillian Morris take to the iconic open-water course in excellent spirits. Conditions were calm and favourable for the multi distance event, and Gillian did magnificent to compete the 2 mile swim in 1:37:59!! Great progression since she only started open water swimming earlier this year!
The Brutal Extreme Triathlons start in the beautiful Lake Padarn. The bike course goes through stunning scenery and over some challenging hills. And finally, the run takes you on an undulating trail around the lake and up and down Wales's highest mountain, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). This is a tough event. Lyall Mew braved the cold and windy weather and completed the middle distance event in 10:28:11. This included a freezing cold lake swim and a run up Snowden!!
The Ray McGloin Memorial Duathlon was held in honour of Ray who was the figurehead for Tri Rivington since its inception. It brought together athletes for a challenging but enjoyable race. Competitors took on the very challenging run–bike–run format in testing conditions, with strong performances from everyone. The day concluded with the presentation of results and tributes to Ray, marking a fitting celebration of his memory and contribution to the club.
