BIKE, SWIM, RUN

Burndeners were back on the bikes and braving the water this week as the summer season brings more perfect conditions for dipping toes and dusting off those wheels.

Tim Taylor wins the award for furthest travelled as he took on the Maratona dles Dolomites bike challenge medio distance. More than just a mouthful, this was a 66 mile distance with 10,000 feet of climbing over five passes (one twice). Tim completed the distance with a new PB of 6:53:23.

A group of members did wheelie well on the Manchester to Blackpool Sportive, which raises money for the Christie. Cyclists ride sixty miles from Salford Quays to a party atmosphere finish at the South Promenade in Blackpool.

Completing this event were Carol Richardson, Gareth Doherty, Mike Caine, Francesca Caine, Gillian Morris, Phil Morris and Lyall Mew.

Steve Riddle was back in his wetsuit for an extra long dip in the stunning Ullswater in the Lake District. Swimming 7.5 miles from one end to the other, Steve was crowned 2nd in his age group – finishing at the shore in 3:47:24.

Jake Quinn placed 41st male at the pancake flat Blackpool 10K in searing heat, which saw several runners drop out at the 5K point. Despite the 30 degree heat, Jake smashed his PB – crossing the line in an impressive 43:01.
