BURNDEN REPRESENTED AT IRONMAN 70.3
Tim Taylor joined by David Smith, who ran the full Ironman in Bolton with his son in 2018, both stepped up to battle its little sister - the Ironman 70.3 - which still packs an impressive punch with 1.2 miles of swimming at Pennington Flash followed by 56 miles of cycling and wrapping up the trio with a 13.1 Half marathon and finishing in Bolton town centre. Taylor finished in position 496 with a brilliant time of 6:21:04 and Smith finished in position 615 of with a fantastic time of 6:41:07. There were a total of 1,254 athletes competing in the home town based event. Smith had just returned from Glengariff, Ireland where he made sure to participate in their Parkrun event with fellow Burndener, Gareth Lowe, - finishing in 4th and 5th place with 23:05 and 23:34 minutes respectively.
 
JOINT 3RD LADY AT THE SIR TITUS TROT MARATHON
Burnden's inspiring legend, Gillian McGowan, was challenged by friend, Sarah McConnell, to accompany her on the Sir Titus Trot Marathon in Saltaire - which lets competitors choose the distance they run from 5K up to the big M. Gillian rose to the challenge with style - running the route along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and achieving joint 3rd lady with Sarah in a time of 7:35:18 - and with no training!
 
IRVING ACHIEVES SUB-HOUR IN FIRST RACE FOR BURNDEN
Simon Irving, a recent graduate of the Burnden Beginners' course, braved his first race in the Burnden vest - running solo at the Great Manchester 10K run. Irving achieved a brilliant 56:45 - with a PB for his 5K - and making good on his promise that if it went well, he'd sign up for a half marathon! Manchester half for this graduate next year!
 
KINLOCH IS 3rd LADY AT PRESTON
Andy Warburton and Gwen Kinloch - both avid wearers of the Burnden grey - represented the club at the Spar City of Preston 10K - both achieving sub-55s. Warburton crossed the finish in an excellent 52:35 while Kinloch continued her amazing form by crossing in 44:43 and gaining the 3rd lady award. The race, created by The Running Bee Foundation, starts and finishes in Avenham Park and takes in Miller Park and Frenchwood Park - also hosting a My First Mile initiative for those new to running.
 
PARKRUNNERS GALORE!
Bolton Parkrun was well represented by Burnden Road Runners as 32 members scrambled to the Finish to achieve their Club Championship Points by completing a Bolton Parkrun in the month of September! Amazing results were recorded with Lee White leading the members home and achieving 3rd place with a finish time of 20:08.
Over at Worsley Woods, Mark Jackson continued to break new records with a PB of 18:42 and achieving 5th place.
 
DUNLEAVY AND KINLOCH LEAD M/F AGE CATEGORIES IN CLUB CHAMP
There were more reasons to celebrate as Andy Dunleavy and Gwen Kinloch lead the way for the men and the women in winning the age-related categories for their performances in the Burnden Club Championshop. Both runners were awarded the top 50 points in the table.
 
RUN AND TALK WEEK
Burnden Road Runners' Mental Health Champions organised a wonderful event in Moss Bank Park over the weekend, which encourages people to run, walk and talk. The Champions, headed by Carolyn and Matt Barker arranged refreshments and a 1 mile and 3 mile organised run/walk. The event was well attended by members and their friends and highlighted the importance of speaking out about mental health.
