Parkrun

PARKRUN EVENT #263 23/04/2016

Four PB’s from this weeks 24 Burnden participants at the parkrun. Three of the four being new 5k personal bests, not just new Leverhulme PB’s.

Our first PB finisher was Matt Barker (22:06) who took 5 seconds off his time from six weeks ago. Matt will surely dip under the 22 minute mark at Leverhulme this year! Our second PB finisher was also second lady in the race. Vicki Hamer (22:47) ran 8 seconds faster than her February PB time and this was her 3rd personal best in 2016. Recording her first PB of 2016 Emma Walker (26:27) took 10 seconds off her time from last May and I’m willing to bet that we don’t have to wait that long again before she graces these pages again. Completing our quartet of PB-er’s Linda Haines (30:37) also recorded her 3rd PB in just her 6th parkrun. Linda slashed 28 seconds off last week’s PB run, so Monday night’s training obviously went well. As well as these PB’s there were seasonal best (SB) runs for: - Colin Faulds, John Turner, Tony Wall, Lucille Corrigan, Tony Foster, Phil Holden, Nadia Raza, Clair Marland, John Egan, Diane Leatherbarrow and Rita Ledwards. Age Graded winners for Burnden were Vicki Hamer, John Turner and Tony Wall.

Looking at the Burnden tourists this week Jackie Oakes, completed her 13th run at the Fell Foot parkrun at Newby Bridge. Making his first appearance at Heaton Park, Steven Bate ran his fastest 5k time of 21:56. Craig Philpott also made his debut at the Haigh Hall parkrun where he was joined by Colm O’Brien who ran his 2nd race there and beat last weeks’ time by 11 seconds for a new best time of 22:40. Continuing the theme of setting a new PB on the 2nd parkrun Sue Blackman, ably assisted by Simon Marland, only managed to take a meagre 2 minutes 55 seconds off her 2013 time! Finally the day before running the London Marathon, Marcus Taylor thought that it might be a good idea to run a PB at the Hockley Woods parkrun in Essex. So Marcus took 1 minute 19 seconds off last years’ time to record a new PB of 20:11. Seriously though Marcus, the day before London!?!?!?!

PARKRUN EVENT #261 09/04/2016

32 runners at this week’s parkrun and while there was no PB’s there was still plenty to celebrate.

Winning the parkrun for the 4th time Phil Eccleston crossed the line in 17 minutes and 40 seconds, a lead over the second placed man of over 1½ minutes. Phil was only 16 seconds away from a new best time. Coming in 3rd overall in a time of 19:36 and also achieving a seasons best time was Andy Staveley. Other Burnden runners who gained a season’s best (SB) time were Stew Jones, Shirley Staveley, John Longden, Philip Glassbrook, Alec Cottrill and Christine Pendlebury. Alec Cottrill was also just 9 seconds away from a new PB and Dawn Evans only 15 seconds away from a hat-trick of PB’s. Winning their age categories were: - Lesley Fisher (VW55), Shirley Staveley (VW50), Mel Walker (VM70), Don Nichol (VM60) and of course Phil Eccleston (VM35) and Andy Staveley (VM55). If fact Burnden had a 1-2-3 in the vet male 55 category with Tony Wall and Stew Jones respectively filling the two places behind Andy. We also claimed 4 of the first 5 Age Graded scores of the day with Lesley (81.74%) in first place and Andy (78.40%) in second place. Mel and Phil were in 4th and 5th and with Tony in 8th place we had 5 runners in the top 10.

Burnden tourist this week included two ‘First Timer’ runs for Adrian Merritt at Haigh Hall and Sue Blackman at the Darley parkrun in Derby. Also at the Darley parkrun Simon Marland (21:50) completed the ‘double’ with a new PB which was also a SB as well. Not to be outdone Kelly Sullavan (23:23) repeated the ‘double’ over at the Stretford parkrun.

PARKRUN EVENT #260 02/04/2016

16 runners took part but sadly we didn't see any PBs or nearly runs.

We did however have some age category success with Vicki Hamer (24:20) in the
SW25-29 category and Anne Ferguson (24:09) in the VW55-59 category.

Just one tourist that weekend with Kelly Sullavan visiting Stretford. Kelly has been a great asset to BRR and we hope to see her soon in some capacity.
