PARKRUN EVENT #271 18/06/2016

20 Burnden runners turned out on this busy weekend of racing this week. Our sole PB of the day came via the feet and lungs of Steven Bate. Steven (22:09) took 28 seconds off his April PB run and also celebrated his highest finish ever in a parkrun event, crossing the line in 19th place. Another runner also finishing in their best ever position was David Parkinson who just missed a podium position by coming in 4th place in both the race and the Age Graded standings (I know there is no podium there, it is just poetic licence). A special shout-out also goes to Paul Johnson who ran his second fastest Leverhulme time, just 15 seconds off his 2011 PB (old course – of course). Come on Paul, you can get the time in the near future! Lesley Fisher may have come in 2nd lady overall but she was streets ahead in the Age Graded standings, scoring 83.35%, which beat the next finisher by over 9%! Age Category winners this week were Vicky Hamer and (no surprises) Lesley Fisher. Congratulations to Lawrence McDonald and Dawn Evans who both ran their 50th parkruns this week. Strangely enough they have both run 38 of them at Leverhulme!! We’ll just call that a coincidence!

Our tourists this week were Rebecca Martin who ran 38:38 (where have I see that number before?) over at Worsley Woods. Whilst over at the undulating Cuerden Valley course both Sue Blackman (32:53) and Simon Marland (22:51) recorded PB’s for the second consecutive week.

PARKRUN EVENT #270 11/06/2016

26 runners at Bolton this week and once again no PBs to celebrate but it was definitely ladies day, with Paula Pilling (21:02) taking the first lady position and Lesley Fisher (22:31) coming top of the age grade league with a magnificent 81.5%.  Anne Ferguson (23:49) ensured we had another Burnden lady in the top three of the age grade league.

Only one special run with John Longden (26:34) taking part in parkrun number 30.

Making it happen this week Simon Darby, Emma Donaldson, Paul Duke, Louise Geoghegan, Jeffrey Pendlebury, Christine Pendlebury, Tony Wall and Louise Wall.

Taking a charabanc to Worsley Woods was Richard Lord (27:29) along with WW débutantes Emma Walker (27:30) and Debra Hennessey (28:35), star of the show though was Dawn Evans (32:03) who on her third visit to Worsley took 37 seconds off her previous best.

Laura Tomlinson (29:04) took part in consecutive events at Kingsbury Water parkrun and her knowledge of the course paid off with a 24 second improvement on the previous week.

Honours were shared at Cuerden park with both halves of the Marland/Blackman partnership celebrating personal bests on the course.  Simon's (23:17) time was 26 seconds faster than his previous best and Sue's (33:04) 11 seconds quicker on the tough parkrun course.

Beccy Martin was on her travels again taking part in her first Birkenhead event her 18th different course.

PARKRUN EVENT #269 04/06/2016

22 Burnden runners were having parkrun fun at Bolton on Saturday.  No PBs or 'nearlies to write about, but we had special runs for Jackie Cairns (31:09) celebrating run number 40, Phil Holden (27:22) taking part in his 150th run and Steven Yates celebrating his return to parkrun after serious illness on his 160th parkrun.  Steven, we are so glad to see you back and looking so well.

Volunteers this week Emma Donaldson, Louise Geoghegan, Mike Gregson, Abbie Gregson, John Hall and Robert Short

Out on their travels at Worsley Woods parkrun Phil Lamb (24:19). Kingsbury Water saw Laura Tomlinson (29:28) making her debut at the event.  Seasoned traveller Becky Martin (42:53) made her debut at Stamford park, this is Becky's 17th parkrun venue, so anyone planning some tourism would do well to have a word and ask her advice on her favourites.

PARKRUN EVENT #268 28/05/2016

The start of the half term holiday and other big events (The Rock and Roll Half and the Ian Hesketh memorial Duathlon to name but two – more will be mentioned in Dave's weekly message) limited numbers to just 18 Road Runners at this week's parkrun. No PBs on offer, but a couple of nearlies, a special run and history in the making!

Starting with the nearlies; Paul Johnson (23:27) was only 15 seconds off his PB from way back in May 2011, lets hope he can sustain this pace and not wait too long before he reaches his PB goal. Another runner almost there was Marcus Chester (20:03) coming home in 7th place with his third best time and only 16 seconds off his PB. Also celebrating his third best time on Saturday Laurence Keighley (20:43) had double cause to celebrate as he became the latest BRR member to achieve a century of parkruns.

History maker of the day was Paula Pilling (20:57), celebrating her first top 10 place overall and also her 27th time as first place lady.  This puts Paula top of the 'Runners with most first place finishes at Bolton parkrun' league'.  Paula's parkrun career started on 30 August 2013 when she finished with a time of 22:49, her consistency in her 61 runs at Bolton has meant that all but three of her runs have seen her finish in the top 50 positions. Well done Paula!

Volunteers at Bolton this week were Abbie Gregson, Carolyn Barker, Ciaran Marland, Emma Donaldson, Gemma Chapman, Jackie Cairns, Joanne Darby, Louise Wall, Mike Gregson and Tony Wall.

On their travels this week at Fulham Palace were Craig (27:31) and Diane (30:13 Leatherbarrow and at Haigh Woodland Craig Philpot (23:01) and equalling his Haigh PB Colm O'Brien (22:40).
