Parkrun

PARKRUN EVENT #275 16/07/2016

It was the day before Ironman UK and all was quiet at Bolton parkrun not even a PB to write about, we did however have a first lady in Lesley Fisher (22:32)  who also topped the age category table with a magnificent 81.43%.

Only 13 other Burnden runners joined Lesley on Saturday with special runs for Don Nichol (25:34) on run 40 and Rob Short (20:39) on run 210. Celebrating his return to running after injury Mike Gregson tail ran in a time of (45:46).

Keeping the show on the road, this week's lovely volunteers Fiona Ashton, Gemma Chapman, Mike Gregson, Linda Haines, Laurence Keighley, Craig Leatherbarrow, Jackie Oakes, Jeffrey Pendlebury and Christine Pendlebury.

This week's tourists at Mansfield parkrun Simon Marland (20:48) with a PB by 23 seconds and Sue Blackman (29:29) beating her previous best on the course by 1 minute 11 seconds.  Colby Parkrun saw a debut appearance by Chris Greenall (22:30).

PARKRUN EVENT #274 09/07/2016

22 Burnden runners this week but no PB’s to report. One run of note to mention though is that of Lesley Fisher who came in 2nd lady again for the 5th parkrun on the trot. No-one is sure when this sequence will end. Will it be when Lesley decided not to compete? Or will she come 1st again as she did in parkrun #7 back on the 19th of March, 2011? Category winners on Saturday were Rob Short, Lesley Fisher and Lucille Corrigan.

Away from the PB-less Leverhulme, Burnden tourists were again in action near and far (or should that be home and away?). Rebecca Martin competed at the Lytham Hall, her 19th parkrun venue. Sue Blackman ran again at Cuerden Park but was unable to make it 4 PB’s on the trot. Over at the nearby Haigh Hall parkrun, Colm O’Brien (22:31) did manage to secure Burnden’s only PB of the day taking 9 seconds off his previous best time. Endelig over på Amager Strandpark i København, Simon Marland blev den første Burnden runner til at konkurrere i Danmark! Or if you prefer it in English. Finally over at the Amager Strandpark in Copenhagen, Simon Marland became the first Burnden runner to compete in Denmark! Although Simon finished in 12th place overall there were 4 other British runners in the race who all, sadly, managed to finish in front of him! (Sorry to mention that Simon; still you did win your age category). Nobody managed to catch Flemming Alder Bank though who won the race in a new PB time of 18:37 – for anyone who is interested.

PARKRUN EVENT #273 02/07/2016

20 Burnden runners at this week’s parkrun and 10% of them got PB’s. Our first PB finisher was Stew (Mad Bull) Jones who recorded a time of 21 minutes and 6 seconds. This was 4 seconds faster that Stew’s last PB run last September and is his 4th PB in just 7 parkruns. That’s a great ratio Stew, there won’t be many better! Scoring her 4th PB in just her 6th parkrun (sorry Stew) Jackie Spiby (28:09) took 17 seconds off her previous best time, which was run 6 weeks ago. This run gave Jackie a hat-trick of PB’s and we shall be keeping an eye out to see if you can make it 4 in-a-row. The last time Jackie had a PB (May 21st) Paula Pilling and Lesley Fisher finished 2nd and 3rd ladies in the race. This time they both went one better and finished 1st and 2nd in the race. In fact Lesley has finished 2nd in the last 4 parkruns – a run that we hope she breaks soon (by finishing first – of course). Joining Paula and Lesley as winners in their age categories this week was the ever-smiling Lucille Corrigan. It was also great to see Tony and Louise Wall run their first parkrun since April (and to see Louise pip Tony by just one second).

Away from Leverhulme we had a few Burnden tourists this week. Mark and Anne Butler were double debutants at the Poolsbrook parkrun, being the first Burnden members to run at this event. While over at Stretford, Adrian Merritt became just the 5th Burnden participant in this parkrun. Paul Duke recorded a new PB of 19:10 over at Worsley Woods, coming in 9th overall and winning his age category. This is Burnden’s 5th fastest time over the Worsley Woods course! It was ‘business as usual’ over at Cuerden Valley where Simon Marland and Sue Blackman again both ran new PB’s. Sue took just one second off her time from a fortnight ago, while Simon removed 14 seconds from the time he set only 14 days ago. Simon came 1st in his age category while Sue came in 2nd in hers. These PB’s cemented a hat-trick of PB’s for both Simon and Sue and have been achieved in just 4 parkruns at this venue (sorry again Stew). These ratios just keep getting better and better!

PARKRUN EVENT #272 25/06/2016

Impressive results in both the ladies and men's tables this week with four Burnden men in the top 10 of the results and Burnden ladies taking places one and two in the ladies race.

Phil Eccleston (17:50) first Burnden runner home in third place, Colin Faulds (20:02) was fifth home on his 30th run, close on his heels was Paul Duke (20:06) only 6 seconds off his PB and Rob Short (20:27).

First lady home was Gwen Kinloch (21:54) who also topped the age category league 82:65% finishing just in front of Lesley Fisher (22:16) 82:41% second in this week's age category league.

The only PB of the day was earned by Susan Wood (28:42) who took 9 seconds off her PB from March.
Special runs by Abbie Gregson (34:52) on run number 110 and Richard Lord (30:16) taking part in his 140th run.

The race director was EXTREMELY glad of all her Burnden support at parkrun this week.  Out in force were Dave Aulton, Gemma Chapman, Louise Geoghegan, Abbie Gregson, Mike Gregson, Mumtaz Patel, Mel Walker, Tony Wall and Louise Wall, thank you all!
