We had 15 Burnden runners out this week equalling our highest turnout, which was on the first week that we took part.
Carolyn Barker, Nia Bell, Don Taylor and Ged Turner all made their debut runs at the weekend, taking the total number of Burnden participants in the EA Weekly 30 Challenge to 30. We also had a bumper PB week with 5 runners registering new personal best efforts. Rachel Prior (6,027 metres) and Andy Warburton (6035) both broke through the 6K barrier for the first time as did Trevor Eagle (4,150.3) in passing the 4K mark. Paul Christie (6,400) improved his distance run in the 30 minutes by 40 metres and Colm O’Brien (6,200) also increased his distance by 40 metres, scored a PB for the second consecutive week as well. I should really give a shout out here for Tony Wall who as well as winning his M60 category (for the 3rdweek running – I couldn’t resist saying it) has also ran on all eleven weekends that we have been taking part in this competition. That has probably put an end to Tony’s record! Anne Ferguson won her W60 category, although at the time of writing this another lady is claiming to have run 10,000 metres in her 30 minutes (I think not), and we also take a one-two in this category as Gwen Kinloch finished just 4 metres short of Anne’s total distance. Rachel Prior was 2nd in her senior women category, which was won by Laura Hesketh from Southport Strollers who is, according to the Run Britain rankings, actually a lady vet 35 now. After last week’s callout from me we had 7 ladies take part this week, covering a total of just under 36 kilometres. The men however managed to get out 8 participants and ran almost 48 kilometres. In the team event we came in at 7th place this week.
A gross fact for you here: - In the ‘Total Distance Covered’ standings Tony Wall is currently in 144th place! Again I couldn’t resist.

10 Burnden runners this week including, 2 debutants, 2 PB’s, 2 second placed category finishers and 1 category winner.

Tony Wall was 1st in his M60 category, Anne Ferguson (W60) and Paul Christie (M65) were 2nd in their categories, Trevor Eagle and Colm O’Brien both achieved PB’s and we welcomed Jenni Partington and Lawrence McDonald to the event as the 25th and 26th Burnden runner to participate in this completion. It was a 4/6 split this week in favour of the men and they went on to cover almost 33.8 kilometres while the ladies managed just under 21.9K. This is the 10th week that we have been competing in this completion and the ladies have ran further than the men on just 2 occasions, so I am calling on the ladies to get out in numbers this weekend!  We achieved a 6th place in the team scores this week, sandwiched between a club from Surrey and a club from Nottinghamshire. Dear Runners

The recent announcement of a 2nd national lockdown reinforces the importance that everyone follows Government guidance, stay safe, protect ourselves/loved ones and the wider community.
Due to the ever growing risk of exposure to COVID-19 we need to cancel all our planned sessions until further notice. Sessions will be resumed when England Athletics provide updated guidance for running/exercise safely (COVID-19 secure) outdoors and in groups.
Please do keep in touch. Our Burnden Road Runners website will be updated frequently as will our Facebook pages (‘Burnden Road Runners’, ‘Burnden Members’ and ‘1 foot on the track’). Booking sessions via Run Together will be available as soon as it is safe/possible.

covering a total of 6,140 metres in his half hour run. Rachel Prior was our only runner to secure a PB this week, increasing her previous record by just over 100 metres to set a new distance of 5683.7 metres and also finishing in 2nd place in her senior women category. We did have two category winners this week, Gwen Kinloch winning the W60 category and Tony Wall coming 1st in his M60 category. 3 ladies and 5 men from Burnden took part this week, with the ladies covering nearly 17.4 kilometres compared to the men’s total of almost 28 K.
