10 Burnden runners this week including, 2 debutants, 2 PB’s, 2 second placed category finishers and 1 category winner.

Tony Wall was 1st in his M60 category, Anne Ferguson (W60) and Paul Christie (M65) were 2nd in their categories, Trevor Eagle and Colm O’Brien both achieved PB’s and we welcomed Jenni Partington and Lawrence McDonald to the event as the 25th and 26th Burnden runner to participate in this completion. It was a 4/6 split this week in favour of the men and they went on to cover almost 33.8 kilometres while the ladies managed just under 21.9K. This is the 10th week that we have been competing in this completion and the ladies have ran further than the men on just 2 occasions, so I am calling on the ladies to get out in numbers this weekend!  We achieved a 6th place in the team scores this week, sandwiched between a club from Surrey and a club from Nottinghamshire. You can find out which clubs by following the link below.

Colm O’Brien became the 12th man and the 24th Burnden member to take part in the England Athletics Weekly 30 Challenge,

covering a total of 6,140 metres in his half hour run. Rachel Prior was our only runner to secure a PB this week, increasing her previous record by just over 100 metres to set a new distance of 5683.7 metres and also finishing in 2nd place in her senior women category. We did have two category winners this week, Gwen Kinloch winning the W60 category and Tony Wall coming 1st in his M60 category. 3 ladies and 5 men from Burnden took part this week, with the ladies covering nearly 17.4 kilometres compared to the men’s total of almost 28 K. In the team league Burnden finished in 9th place, with an average distance of just over 12 and a half metres behind the 8th place team – MadRunners (a running group from St Helens).

We have some more good news on the training front, the popular Wednesday night sessions at Leverhulme Park returns on Wednesday 4th November 2020.

It's the usual time of 7pm on the track at Leverhulme Park, Long Lane, Bolton. However as with Burnden's Saturday morning sessions you will need to book onto the 1 Foot on the track session using Run Together App.

You can download the Run Together App by clicking on you appropriate app store

There will be a limit for the first session of 20 people, this will be subject to change each week depending on available leaders, if you do not book on the session or if the session gets booked you will not be able to train. All run leaders are following strict guidance to comply with Covid 19 compliance.

All run leaders are Burnden members and everyone is welcome to join in as before. The session will cost £1 the same as our usual Burnden training nights ( unless you have a track pass or gym membership in which case the fee will be wavered).

For more information on the sessions and for any questions head over to 1 foot on the track facebook group.

Dear Runners

Burnden Road Runners put your safety and wellbeing first. All sessions currently operate within a strict COVID secure environment and adhere to Government and sports club (England Athletics) guidance.

The recent announcement of a 2nd national lockdown reinforces the importance that everyone follows Government guidance, stay safe, protect ourselves/loved ones and the wider community.

Due to the ever growing risk of exposure to COVID-19 we need to cancel all our planned sessions until further notice. Sessions will be resumed when England Athletics provide updated guidance for running/exercise safely (COVID-19 secure) outdoors and in groups.

Please do keep in touch. Our Burnden Road Runners website will be updated frequently as will our Facebook pages (‘Burnden Road Runners’, ‘Burnden Members’ and ‘1 foot on the track’). Booking sessions via Run Together will be available as soon as it is safe/possible.
