Burnden Race Reports

Burnden got their Central Lancashire Grand Prix season under way at the Roddlesworth roller 9k race based in Abbey Village. The club were led home in a very close contest by Jonathan Sangster (37:31) and Paul Duke (37:32), Paul also claimed the prize of 1st M40. Next home was Gwen Kinloch (43:42) who was also 1st F60. Lyndsay Darbyshire (44:32) continued her good form by claiming first place in the F50 category.

As one season started another closed yet with further sucesses. The South East Lancs cross country season finished later than planned due to a postponement earlier in the season. Whilst no team members ran the final race at Heaton park, places were cemented during the previous three races.

Placings; Ladies team 4th Overall, Winners of 40 plus category. Lyndsay Darbyshire( F50 1st), Gwen Kinloch(F55 1st) and Anne Ferguson(F60 1st F60).

Men: 12th Overall, Winners of 50 plus Category. Steve Nolan(2nd M55) and Keith Thomas( 1st M60).


Liz Mclellan (43:42) continued her good form this time at the rearranged Tatton park 10k. Liz took 1st F50 and an impressive 5th lady overall, on the blustery undulating out and back course.


A little further afield Gillian Morris took part in the Cambridge half Marathon.Gillian completed the course in an impressive time of 1:59:06.

The race which took in the Historic sights of the city, focusing on the University sites proved very popular with over 10,000 runners many of which including Gillian using the race as part of their marathon training.


The latest club member to take on a Duathlon did with great success. David Smith (2:51:58) came 1st M55 in the fire fighters Duathlon based from Rivington and Blackrod school. The event took on a 4 mile run, 25 mile bike ride and finished with a repeat of the 4mile run
