Burnden Race Reports

BURNDEN’S Gwen Kinloch is the women’s champion in this year’s Central Lancs Grand Prix series as the club dominated the overall results.
She claimed first prize in the open section, beating off all other female runners, with the club’s Sarah Watton second overall to make it a fantastic 1-2 for Burnden. Isaline Pollitt made it three Burndeners in the top six.
Rob Short was overall runner-up in the men’s series with Paul Duke another prize-winner in 5th place and Marcus Taylor just missing out on the prizes in 6th position.
There were a clutch of age group victories over the series. Marcus Taylor and Lee White made it a Burnden 1-2 in the M45 group and Tony Wall emerged top of the M60 class.
Paul Duke was runner-up in the M40 category with Martyn Pollitt 2nd M55 and Don Taylor 2nd M65.
In the women’s section, Anne Ferguson was runner-up to Gwen Kinloch in the F55 category. Linda O’Byrne was 2nd F45 with Emma Walker 3rd and Isaline Pollitt and Sheila Christie were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the F50 section.
Burnden made it a clean sweep of the team prizes, winning the A and B mixed team leagues, the Women’s Series table and the Veterans table.


Shay Walker once again did the vest proud, this time coming a brilliant 5th overall out of 314 finishers and 2nd V45 in the Lancaster Half Marathon with a time of 1:23:36


Several members chose the Through the Villages race at Wheelton, Chorley, to stretch the legs with Pete Hopley leading them home, 24th overall and 3rd M50 in 55:54.
Marcus Taylor was next to complete the 8.4-mile course in 58:08, followed by Simon Marland in 1:01:49.
Anne Ferguson was 2nd F60 and 11th overall in the women’s race with a time of 1:06:02.

Liz McLellan powered to 6th place in the women’s race at the Run Tatton 10K. Liz was 3rd F45 in 42:53.
