Burnden Race Reports

BURNDEN ladies won the team prize and three age group victories at the third race in the Horwich Jubilee Series. 

Anne Ferguson was 1st L60 in 37mins 53secs over the five-mile course, with Sheila Christie first in the L55 section in 41:54 and Gayle Gerrard 1st L40 in 41:58.
Lyndsay Darbyshire was the first female member to finish, 2nd L50 in 37:26, with Shirley Staveley 3rd L50 in 38:26. Louise Wall was 3rd L50 in 47:03.
Lyndsay, Anne and Shirley’s times combined to lift the team prize on the night.
In the men’s race, Ed Ashton was the first Burndener to finish, 28th overall and 3rd V50 in 33:25.
Tony Wall was 3rd V60 in 36:16 and Phil Glassbrook 2nd V70 in 43:45.


Lorraine Halwood completed her 42nd marathon finishing 23rd at the Sir Titus Trot race in Saltaire with a time of 5:00:05 – although it seems the course was somewhat longer than it needed to be with her covering 27.5 miles in loops of the canal course.


Jackie Oakes registered two marathon wins in three days at the Scorcher Run Festival in Salwick, near Preston. She won the ladies race on Day 3 in 4:22:57 and followed that up on Day 5 with a time of 4:00:37.

Sarah Woodiwiss won the ladies race in the 50K Ultra on Day 6 at the seven-day meeting in 5:52:52 and Mumtaz Patel was first in the ladies’ Half Marathon in 1:47:41.
