BRITISH MASTERS OPEN RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

BURNDEN’S women scored several notable successes at the British Masters Open Relay Championships at Sutton Coldfield.
The women’s Over 55 team claimed the silver medal, holding off formidable challenges by strong teams from all across the country.
The trio of ladies captain Gwen Kinloch, Anne Ferguson and Kate Ellis completed the relay in a combined time of 1:08:04.
Gwen ran the second fastest leg of the day in the category, posting a time of 21:23. Anne’s time of 23:14 was the 8th fastest and Kate registered the 10th quickest in 23:27.
The club sent four teams to the championships. The women’s Over 35 team of Kelly Sullavan, Rhian Vickers, Louise Wall and Sheila Christie recorded a combine time of 1:52:03.
Kelly set them on their way with 26:56, the fastest leg of the four, followed by Rhian (28:34) and Louise (29:09) before Sheila powered through the last leg in 27:24.
Paul Duke, Marcus Taylor, Andy Warburton and Paul Christie represented the club in the M35 section. Paul set them on their way with a stunning time of 18:54 - the only member to run under 20 minutes - followed by Marcus just outside that mark in 20:18.
Andy ran his leg in 25:46 before Paul completed the final leg in 26:08.
The club’s M55 team had a combined total of 1:06:32, made up of Tony Wall’s first leg of 21:37, Ged Turner’s 23:03 and Keith Thomas’s final leg of 21:52.
