PARKRUN EVENT #325 08/07/2017

Just the one PB from our 26 runner this week and what a wait for this one! After a run of 8 consecutive PB’s back in July and August of 2014 we have had a wait of 35 months for Rita Ledwards to secure her 9th one. Rita’s time of 30 minutes and 46 seconds took 26 seconds off her previous best set back in those dark coalition days. Please don’t make us wait this long again, Rita. Marcus Chester and Paul Duke took the first two places in the VM40 category, while Tony Wall and Don Nichol came 1st and 3rd in the VM60 category. Nia Bell, Linda Haines and Rita Ledwards went one better and finished in the first 3 places in the VW55 category. Sue Blackman celebrated her 100th parkrun at the Leverhulme event (better than Gorky Park a fortnight before, I’m sure). Also celebrating were Phil Holden (180 parkruns), Craig Leatherbarrow (120) and Susan Wood (60).

Only one place to start with the tourist this week! Over at the Watergrove run in Rochdale the little known Paula Pilling finished first lady in 6th place overall and became just the second Burnden runner to run at this venue. Over the border in Wales Rebecca Martin made hers and Burnden’s debut at the Wepre parkrun in Flintshire. Also in Wales Mark Davis made his debut at the Conwy venue. Still more ‘first timers’ were north of the border at the Portobello parkrun in Edinburgh, where Gillian and Johnny McGowan flew the flag for Burnden. We finish this week’s parkrun report with a trio of PB runners. So congrats to David Broadhurst (Worsley Woods), Christine Fernon (Delamere) and Michael Caine with his 4th consecutive PB at the Fell Foot parkrun.
