BURNDEN BEGINNERS

“Run in England” with Burnden Roadrunners Beginners Group

Mondays 6.30pm – 7.15pm, Smithills Sports Centre, Smithills Dean Road, Bolton

As part of the “Run in England” movement, Burnden Roadrunners have set up a beginners group to help those who are relatively new to running as well as to inspire the complete novice who might be planning to enter a charity run, fun run or to get involved in the world of recreational running.

Our beginners group aims to help runners through their first painful steps and into an enjoyable world of running at whatever level they wish. Hopefully some will choose to progress to joining the club, but the beginners group welcomes every aspiring runner whatever their plans for the future. The beginners group is suitable for the complete beginner or those who are already running and want to build confidence or speed.

Three club members have now gained the Leaders’ Licence and other members of Burnden Roadrunners also help out with the group.

The next beginners group will start on Monday 13th September, 6:30pm at Smithills Sports Centre and the sessions will last around 45 minutes prior to the main club run at 7.30pm.

The first two weeks will be an out and back run of just 2 to 3 miles to give us an idea of the various abilities within the group.  We will then follow a 10 weeks training plan to cover some speed work, gentle hill running and trail running (evening light permitting!). All sessions will be approximately 3 miles.

A £5 joining fee will cover club membership until January 2011 which also incorporates membership of the English Athletics Association. This also entitles you to discounted race entry fees and discount at many running shops.

We all pay £1 per week subs toward the cost of using showers and changing facilities at Smithills Sports Centre.

Anyone who wishes to take part can just turn up or, if you need more details, ring 07515 345286 or e-mail andy.staveley@bbmax.co.uk
