When I was training hard for a marathon a number of years ago, I asked three different coaches for some guidance on a specific aspect of my training. Two of them were top international runners and renowned coaches and the other was the legendary and wise Bruce Tulloh (if you don’t know who he is, look him up). One of the coaches said I should definitely do X and the other advised me to definitely do Y. So I then asked Bruce Tulloh. 


RACE REPORT Tuesday13th August 

Burnden travelled in numbers to the Lowther show trail run consisting of 1400ft of ascent within a 13mile course. Jonathan Sangster led the club home in a time of 1.45.44. Mark Jackson and Richard Blake took part in the Ice Lolly Challenge.

RACE REPORT Tuesday 6th August

During the week, hardy fell enthusiasts Mark Butler and David Morrison tackled the tough Lea mill fell race which included 1089ft of climb within the 10k course, Burnden were represented at the Alpe D, Huez Triathlon when Ged Turner travelled to Central French Western alps to take part in the testing event.

RACE REPORT Tuesday 30th July

Burnden members headed up to the village of Calder Vale to compete in the Calder Vale 10 miler. Burnden ladies had a very successful trip with a number of category wins. Kirsty White and Sarah Woodiwiss led home the 8 Burnden Road Runners at this year's Manvers Dusk till dawn event in Wath upon Dearne.Shay Walker marked his return to fitness by leading home the crowds at RunThrough Heaton park 5k in a solid time of 18.38

RACE REPORT Tuesday 23rd July

Jen Forkin and Shirley Robinson completed their first half marathons, finishing together with a time of 2:33:43.BURNDEN’S Liz McLellan won the Dunham Massey Duathlon women’s race.
Liz completed the event – a 14K bike ride sandwiched between two 2.5K road runs – in a superb time of 47mins 15secs, two minutes ahead of her nearest rival.

This event is similar to the Terry Nortley Relays, if you fancy taking part please get in touch with Vicki Hamer who is looking to get teams together. Teams of 4 runners each complete 10.4 furlongs ( 1.3 miles) of the iconic Manchester Racecourse. More race info here
