Short Statement from Burnden Run leaders.

We hope that you are keeping well and managing to stay active during these difficult times.

As you know, all formal training on a Monday evening at Burnden has been suspended since the UK went into Lockdown on 23rd March. We know that many of you have continued to run, and there has been a great response to the running challenges such as the virtual 5k and the virtual relays that the club has publicised.

Following a recent meeting of Burnden run leaders we have taken the difficult decision Not to return to formal training on a Monday evening. We have concerns about our ability to ensure the health and safety of both Burnden members and members of the public. We are also conscious of the reputation and image of the club. We need to be confident that we are running sessions in a way that is responsible and mindful of the health and safety of the whole community.

We want to encourage members to keep active and to meet up in small groups of up to 6 people. We encourage you to try to keep to the same group of 6, as this is safer and in line with government guidance. We suggest running in parks and off road wherever possible. Structured session plans will be published on the Burnden website, and runners who want to make contact with running buddies can do so by email or through the Burnden FB page or WhatsApp group. Any questions or concerns can be addressed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We hope that you understand this difficult decision. We will keep the situation under constant review and hope to be able to resume formal sessions in the not too distant future.

Well done to everyone who joined in and raised funds for our two charities, The Cavell Nurses' Trust and Bolton NHS Foundation Charity, we raised just over £1,000.
